Background

Ligang power station is an eight-unit coal-fired power plant with a total capacity of 3,980 MW. The plant was completed in three phases between 1993 and 2008, and is majority-owned by Sunspark Power Investment.[1][2][3]

Phase V Proposal

In January 2023, the Jiangsu Provincial Development and Reform Commission had an additional 2 x 1,000 MW of power under consideration at the site.[4] An environmental impact assessment was underway.[5] In February 2023, a feasibility study meeting was held.[6]

On June 30, 2023, the expansion was approved by the Jiangsu Provincial Development and Reform Commission (苏发改能源发〔2023〕717号, portal update timestamp: 2023/07/12).[7]
