Background

The Longchuan power station (also known as the Yangquan Nanmei Longchuan power plant) began construction in April 2007 and was completed in 2008, with Unit 1 (135 MW) connected to the grid in August 2008, and Unit 2 (135 MW) connected in November 2008.[1] With a total investment is 1.48 billion RMB from the Nanmei Group and Yangquan Coal Group, the estimated annual output value of the facility is around 400 million RMB.[1] It is scheduled to be shut down in April 2037.[2]

Pollution Fine

In December, 2016, the Shanxi province's “Iron Fist Pollution Control Action” team conducted on-site inspections of 11 enterprises and construction sites in the suburbs of Yangquan City, Yuxian County, and Pingding County. Yangquan City punished 9 large enterprises - including the Longchuan Power station - with a total fine of 5.399 million RMB for not adhering to local emissions standards.[3]

Emissions Control

In 2017, the operators invested nearly 100 million RMB in emissions technology to meet environmental standards; they implemented retrofits for desulfurization, denitrification and dust removal technologies on both units.[4]
