Background

Luohuang power station is a six-unit coal-fired power plant with a total capacity of 2,640 MW. The first phase of 2*360MW units were completed in 1991. The second phase of 2*360MW units were completed in 1998. The steam turbines of the four units were all supplied by GEC-ALSTHOM, France. The third phase of 2*600MW units went operation in 2006 and 2007, and all the equipments were domesticially made. The plant is owned by Huaneng.[1] [2] [3]

Proposed expansion

Huaneng has been planning to build additional 2 units, with 1000MW each at a different town (Youxi Town), but same district since 2010. The name of the new power project was "Huanneng Jiangjin Youxi Power Station"[4] The plan seems dropped since there is no further action since then. But it appears in Chongqing 13th 5-year Plan published in March 2016, as "Huaneng Jiangjin Power Station".[5]
