Background

Luohuang power station is a six-unit coal-fired power plant with a total capacity of 2,640 MW. The first phase of 2*360MW units were completed in 1991. The second phase of 2*360MW units were completed in 1998. The steam turbines of the four units were all supplied by GEC-ALSTHOM, France. The third phase of 2*600MW units went operation in 2006 and 2007, and all the equipments were domesticially made. The plant is owned by Huaneng.

Proposed expansion

Huaneng has been planning to build additional 2 units, with 1000MW each at a different town (Youxi Town), but same district since 2010. The name of the new power project was "Huanneng Jiangjin Youxi Power Station" The plan seems dropped since there is no further action since then. But it appears in Chongqing 13th 5-year Plan published in March 2016, as "Huaneng Jiangjin Power Station".
