Background

The Maisky coal mine was a surface coal mine. It was operated by SUEK, and was opened in 2000.[2]

The mine's production was about 0.8- 1 million tonnes per annum.[3][4]

The mine was closed in 2014, due to depletion of its reserves.[4] Since the start of operations, the mine produced 10.5 million tonnes. Remediation of disturbed lands should have started after ceasing of operations.[4]
