Background
In 2011, after an original investment totaled €430 million, then-operator E.ON commissioned Malženice with an installed capacity of 436 megawatts. However, in 2013 E.ON decided to mothball the plant as it was not profitable to operate.[8]
In 2018, E.ON sold the plant to Regional power producer and distributor Západoslovenská Energetika (ZSE). At that time, ZSE was "consider[ing] its re-start."[8]
Data from the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSOE) shows production at a level of around 420 MW from plant since July 2018.[9]
