Background

The 2 × 660 MW ultra-supercritical units were reported to be permitted to build by the Inner Mongolian Development and Reform Commission in December 2022.[5]

In April 2023, Harbin Electric Group Steam Turbine Company won the bid for the procurement of steam turbines and ancillary equipment for the power station.[6] In May 2023, North China Institute won the bid for unit engineering survey and design.[7] In July 2023, bidding for construction supervision began.[8]

Construction starting ceremony was held on 31 August 2023.[9][10]

Construction of the two-unit project continued throughout 2023 and 2024, with progress on cooling towers, boiler steel structures, and other infrastructure.[11][12]

Major milestones in 2025 included the successful water pressure test for Unit 1's boiler and generator rotor installation.[13][14]

Unit 1 was connected to the grid in July 2026.[15] Unit 2 also saw significant progress, with its generator rotor installed in early 2026 and a successful boiler water pressure test in April 2026.[16][17]
