Background

The route for this operating pipeline is included in the European Hydrogen Backbone project[6], with GasGrid Finland Oy indicating their intention to build a new hydrogen ready pipeline for this route. As of October, 2022, it is unclear whether these pipelines will exclusively carry Hydrogen, or a blend of natural gas and hydrogen.

Gasgrid Finland and Nordion Energi of Sweden are collaborating on this joint project, titled "Nordic Hydrogen Route". They expect planning of the buildout to be completed by 2024, with design and implementation expected between then and 2030.[7]
