Background
The project's PPP contract has been signed.[3]
In February 2022, Gulf Energy Development Plc was granted a license to import more gas into Thailand, which would apply to gas imported through the Gulf MTP LNG project.[4]
In April 2025, Thailand’s Gulf and PTT Tank Terminal announced via a stock exchange filing that it would be moving forward with developing the facility.[5] A June 2025 article reiterated that the project had been greenlit by the developers.[6]
In June 2025, Thailand’s Gulf and PTT Tank Terminal said that the facility was expected to begin construction in the fourth quarter of 2025 and to begin operations in the first quarter of 2029. The total cost of the terminal and associated facilities was reportedly not to exceed 60 billion baht, or US$1.83 billion, per a shareholder resolution.[7]
In July 2025, Posco E&C was awarded a construction contract for the facility.[8]
