Background

Mariveles LNG Terminal was originally proposed around 2013 by GNPower as an LNG import terminal with a capacity of 2.17 mtpa in Bataan, Philippines.[4]

Samat LNG Corporation was founded in 2020 to develop, own and operate LNG import terminals primarily to industrial and commercial customers for power supply and transportation fuel.[1] In January 2023, the company received a Notice to Proceed (NTP) for the Mariveles LNG Terminal from the Philippines' Department of Energy. It was reported that Samat LNG was targeting the first half of 2024 for the commencement of commercial operations at the import terminal.[3]

In September 2023, Samat LNG signed a long-term land lease agreement with state-owned Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC) for its facility at PNOC’s industrial park in Limay, Bataan.[5]

In January 2024, PNOC was considering an investment in the facility.[6]
