Background
In a video interview from January 2026, the mayor of Mazabuka said that the Mazabuka Municipal Council had allotted land to Atlas Energy Ltd. for construction of a 200 MW thermal power plant. The project would reportedly source coal from Maamba.
In May 2026, reporting indicated that the power station would have a capacity of 270 MW.[1]
