Background on Mine

The proposed Meral Opencast Coal Mine project of 0.5 MTPA on a lease area of 1021.89 Ha is located in Village Meral, District Palamu, State Jhakhand, India.

The mine was first allotted to Abhijit Infrastruture Limited for which the environment clearance was obtained on 23 September 2009. The Public Hearing for the project was held on 25 December 2008 which involves R&R of Meral village comprising 196 PAFs of homestead and land losers. Life of the mine at the rated capacity of 0.5 MTPA is 29 years.[1].

However, the mine was cancelled by Supreme Court in wake of the coalgate scam and further allotted by Ministry of Coal on 22 April 2015 to Trimula Industries Limited and subsequently the Environment Clearance was trasferred on 6 July 2015[2]
