Background

The Mine No. 12 coal mine is owned and operated by Shakhta №12 LLC, owned by Stroyservis JSC.

The mine is the oldest operating mine in Russia. It was an underground mine from 1917, when it was created, until 2013. In 2013, the underground mining operations of the mine closed, and the mine started exploiting a nearby section using surface mining.[3][4]

In November 2021, coal operations were suspended for 90 days due to departure of mining operations from the project documentation and non-compliance with of the beam height in the southern section.[5]
