Background

Owner Vicat has pursued a number of sustainability oriented initiatives at the The Montalieu cement plant, including hosting pilot projects to capture CO2 and produce methanol, cultivation of spirulina using captured carbon and waste heat to grow bacteria as a food source for the plants, a hydrogen electrolysis test project for the production of alternative hydrogen fuel, and the planned commissioning of a 100% carbon capture system to be installed by 2027.
