The mine is located 1.7km from the recently re-commissioned Camden power station, opening in 2009 with a project life of approximately 20 years.

In 2010, CoAL hoped to expand the project by incorporating neighbouring farms.[1]

In 2018, MC Mining has completed the sale of the Mooiplaats thermal coal colliery in South Africa to Mooiplaats Coal Holdings (MCH) following the receipt of certain outstanding regulatory approvals.[2]

It is unclear if the mine is still operating.
