Background
The plant supplied steam to West Virginia University, and supplied electricity to the university and other customers. The plant was built in 1991, and runs on "gob" (waste) coal.[1]
As of October 2019, the plant was slated to stop producing electricity in January 2020, but would still provide steam to WVU campuses.[2] The plant stopped coal generation as scheduled on January 1, 2020.[3]
