Background

The Mudanjiang Cogeneration power station (not to be confused with the Mudanjiang-2 power station) consists of an 80 MW coal unit that was likely commissioned in the early 2010s. The plant provides an estimated 65% of the city's central heating. In 2015, it was fitted with a new desulfurization unit.[1]

A new 100 MW unit was permitted in May 2020. Construction began on the unit before it was permitted.[2] The Mudanjiang Cogen Power Company has invested 348.4 million RMB into the expansion project. Coal for the plant is transported via a railway that runs through the plant and the eastern party of Mudanjiang city.[3]
