Background
Shapoorji Pallonji Infrastructure Capital Company Ltd (SP Infra), a unit of the Mumbai-based conglomerate, is one of the two entities that have submitted bids to develop a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) that can load 3.5 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG at Mumbai Port.[3]
The FSRU is estimated to cost over ₹2,690 crore. It has already received environment and coastal regulation zone (CRZ) clearances from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. A Mumbai Port Trust spokesman said the organization is awaiting Cabinet approval for the project ahead of finalizing the tender, and confirmed that Shapoorji Pallonji has placed a bid for the same.[3]
In May 2021, Bumi Armada and India’s Shapoorji Pallonji announced that their joint venture, SP Armada Clean Energy Ventures (SPACEVPL), had entered a license agreement with the Mumbai Port Trust to set up, operate, and maintain an FSRU terminal for 30 years.[4]
There have been no development updates in over two years, and the project was inferred to be shelved as of 2023.
There have been no development updates in over four years, and the project was inferred to be cancelled in 2025.
