Background

On 3 February 2009, the $358.6 million, 655-mile pipeline project was commissioned, making it the longest cross-country pipeline in India at the time. The pipeline was constructed by the state-controlled Hindustan Petroleum Corp. Ltd. with the purpose of transporting European-grade fuels from Mundra Port to India's capital. It has a capacity of 100,000 barrels per day.

Expansion Location

The pipeline will be extended from Palanpur to Vadodara, passing through 8 districts in the state of Gujarat, India.

Expansion Background

There's a planned expansion that will increase capacity to 600,000 barrels per day in total. The Capacity Expansion Project entails increasing the existing Mundra Delhi Pipeline capacity from 5 to 8 MMTPA by constructing additional booster pump stations at Bhachau, Palanpur in Gujarat and at Pindwara in Rajasthan. The pipeline would also be extended from Palanpur to Vadodara. The extension pipeline would be 18-inch-diameter pipeline 235 km in length, passing through 8 districts in the state of Gujarat. In October 2017, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone and inaugurated the Mundra-Delhi pipeline Capacity Expansion Project.
