North Nippon Muroran Works steel plant (室兰制铁所 (Chinese) and 室蘭製鉄所 (Japanese)), also known as North Nippon Works (Muroran) (anticipated re-naming Apr. 2022), is a 2598 thousand tonnes per annum (TTPA) blast furnace (BF), basic oxygen furnace (BOF) and electric arc furnace (EAF) steel plant operating in Muroran, Hokkaidō, Japan.
Location
The map below shows the location of the steel plant in Muroran, Hokkaidō, Japan.
- Location: 12 Nakamachi, Muroran City, Hokkaido, 050-8550, Japan[1]
- Coordinates (WGS 84): 42.341873, 140.997803 (exact)
Background
The Muroran Works was founded in 1909. One blast furnace at the plant was closed in 1982 during the Second Modernisation Plan across the company, and another in 1987 during the Fourth Modernisation Plan.[2] The plant closed one more blast furnace In April 2022, the Nippon Muroran Works steel plant will be renamed to North Nippon Works (Muroran).[3]
