Background

A modern cogeneration complex with gas piston units of up to 80 MW is planned at the existing Mykolaiv power station (40 MW). The project is intended to supply energy to around 160,000 residents of Mykolaiv and has an estimated cost of UAH 59.7 billion. A feasibility study, supported by the Swedish development fund Swedfund, is currently in preparation. The plan involves installing gas-fired reciprocating units with a total capacity of up to 80 MW, operating in cogeneration mode to produce both electricity and heat. Preparation of the feasibility study is expected to take one year, and, subject to financing, the project could be completed within two years.[6]
