Background
Reporting in June 2024 announced that Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) planned to set up a 1,600 MW (2 x 800 MW units) thermal power station near the proposed Naini Coal Mine in Angul, Odisha.[3][4] According to the news, SCCL was seeking 800 acres of land approximately 50 kilometers from the coal mine to develop the power station.[4]
Reporting in July 2024 indicated that the Odisha state government had given its initial approval of the land transfer for the Naini coal mine and connected thermal power station.[5]
As of January 2025, Naini coal mine was scheduled to begin production in March 2025. An official from the Telangana state government, which partly owns SCCL, had urged the Odisha government to allot land for the proposed power station near the Naini coal mine.[6]
