Background

The Nanshan Thermal power station is one of two power stations owned by the Nanshan Group (the other being the Donghai Thermal power station).[1] The Nanshan thermal power station is a captive power plant that supports the Nanshan Group's aluminum facilities nearby.[2] During peak seasons, the power plant also supplies extra energy to the Shandong grid.[3]

As of August 2021, the power station had about 700 employees.[4]

At least one unit was probably retired as early as 2011.[5] At least one unit was officially retired in 2016.[6] Unit 3 retired in 2022.[7]
