The Nawapara coal mine is an underground mine, operated by South Eastern Coalfields Limited, a subsidiary of Coal India, producing 0.18 million tonnes per annum, on a 451.40 hectre area in Maheshpur Village, Tehsil Surajpur, District Surguja, Chhattisgarh, India.[1]

Background on Mine

The Nawapara underground coal mine project of 0.18 MTPA capacity on a mine lease area of 451.40 ha operated by South Eastern Coalfields Limited, a subsidiary of Coal India, is located in Maheshpur Village, Tehsil Surajpur, District Surguja State Chhattisgarh, India. The mine received its environment clearance on 7 January 2002 and received a term of reference for expansion in capacity to 0.55 MTPA on 10 November 2009.[2] However, the project violated the terms of the environment clearance and so had to seek revalidation of its 2002 EC.[3]
