Background on Mine
The Nawapara underground coal mine has a designed capacity of 0.18 MTPA on a mine lease area of 451.40 ha. It is operated by South Eastern Coalfields Limited, a subsidiary of Coal India.
The mine received its environment clearance on 7 January 2002 and received a term of reference for expansion in capacity to 0.55 MTPA on 10 November 2009.[3] However, the project violated the terms of the environment clearance and so had to seek revalidation of its 2002 EC.[4]
