Background
New November 7th (7 Noyabrya - Novaya) coal mine (шахта 7 Ноября-Новая) is an underground mine in Kemerovo Oblast, Russia.
It started operations in 2021. The New November 7th Mine is operated by SUEK Kuzbass, which is owned by SUEK.
The mine's construction was started in 2018 with a plan to produce 3.4 million tonnes per annum.[4]
In its 2020 report, SUEK states that due to 'the deterioration in global market conditions the construction of the mine was slowed down, but at the end of 2020 when coal prices began to recover, the company decided to commission the first longwall face at the new mine for production to begin in the second quarter of 2021'.[5]
Although there is no official announcement of the mine's start of operations, it appears that the mine has been operating based on several references in the press and in SUEK's 2021 annual report.[6][7]
Over January-June 2022, the mine produced 1.1 million tonnes, a 7x increase compared to the same period in 2021.[8] In the first half of 2023, the mine produced already 2 million tonnes since the beginning of the year.[9]
