Background
As of June 2026, Gujarat Industries was seeking fresh Terms of Reference (ToR) for a new 750 MW (3 x 250 MW) subcritical lignite plant in the Surat district of Gujarat. The greenfield project was proposed for land in the villages Vastan, Jhankharda, and Dungri. Gujarat Industries’ 500 MW Surat Lignite Power Plant was located 1.4 km away from the proposed site for the new plant.[2][3]
