There are two lignite fired thermal power stations owned and operated by the Neyveli Lignite Corporation near the town of Neyveli in Cuddalore district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Background

They are the:

  • Neyveli Thermal Power Station II, a 1470 MW megawatt power station which comprises 7 units of 210MW each. These units were commissioned in two stages of 630MW and 840MW. The first 210MW unit was commissioned in March 1986 and the last unit in June 1993. Further expansions of the power station are currently being completed. Neyveli Thermal Power Station II is located approximately 7 kilometres to the south-west of the Neyveli Thermal Power Station I.

As the two power stations are separated by a significant distance and are of different vintage there is an article on each specific power station.
