Background

Nilachal Iron & Power Limited was incorporated in 2002 and started with one DRI Kiln of 350 tonnes per day (tpd) capacity.[1] The plant currently produces sponge iron using three DRI kilns and is undergoing expansions into an integrated steel plant to produce 700 thousand tonnes per annum (ttpa) crude steel, expected to be completed by June 2022.[1] A fourth DRI kiln of capacity 600 tpd began operation at the plant in July 2022.[2] Another DRI kiln of 600 tpd capacity is also being installed at the plant.[3] The plant has an installed induction furnace capacity of 100 ttpa.[3][2]

As of October 2025, there has been no updates on the expansion of the plant.
