Background

In 2022, the Brazilian company Nimofast announced that it planned to develop Paraná state's first LNG import and regasification project, at the port of Antonina.[1] Nimofast reported that it had already identified partners for the project and hoped to make a final investment decision (FID) by 2023, with commercial operations to begin in 2025.[1][2]

As of July 2023, many details of the project remained unclear, but the proposed terminal was expected to include a floating storage unit (FSU) with a storage capacity of 180,000 m³, moored 4 kilometers offshore from Antonina. A pair of barges with capacities of 20,000 m³ each would transport LNG onshore, where it would initially be distributed by truck directly to industrial customers looking to move away from coal, diesel, LPG and fuel oil; in this scenario, regasification would take place at the receiving end.[1][3] In a later phase, plans called for the LNG to be regasified for distribution via the network of Paraná's state gas distributor, Compagas (Companhia Paranaense de Gás)[1][3] and possibly via TBS's GASBOL gas pipeline.[3] EPBR has reported that Nimofast's regasification facility would be at the port of Antonina, with a proposed regasification capacity of 6 million m³ per day[1], while Argus Media has stated that regasification could take place at Nimofast's distribution center in Araucaria, 100 kilometers inland.[3]

Nimofast's CEO Ramon Reis stated that the company had already confirmed its first major customer, the private gas distributor Migratio, as well as a dependable LNG supplier, whose name remained undisclosed due to reasons of confidentiality.[1] Nimofast was reportedly also investigating possible sales to Paraná's state gas distributor, Compagas (Companhia Paranaense de Gás).[1]
