Background

The four existing coal-fired units of Ningxia Lingwu power station, totaling 3,320 MW, were brought online between 2007 and 2011. The plant is owned by China Huadian and CHALCO. The first two units are 600 MW each, first brought online in 2007. Units 3 and 4 (Phase II) of 1,060 MW each were brought online in 2010-11.[1]

Description of Expansion

Huadian was planning to build Phase III, consisting of two additional coal-fired units at this plant, with a total planned capacity of 2,000 MW. The units were originally planned for operation in 2013,[2] but there has been no progress since 2009, and the proposed units appear to be abandoned.
