Background

Refurbished units

As of September 2020, the contractor has completed installation of the new turbine at Unit 1R, which is expected to replace[17] the retired Unit 1. It was being prepared for testing.[18] Unit 2R, replacing Unit 2[17], was at that time under construction: the old Unit 2 was shut down and was being dismantled.[19] Unit 2R was expected to be commissioned in 2022.[18] By October 2020, the company was expecting to deliver the new turbine for Unit 2R.[19] In December 2020, a claim was filed with the court by the contractor against the metallurgical company (owner), presumably halting the construction.[19] In August 2021, the contractor has withdrawn the lawsuit.[19] In December 2021, it was reported that Unit 1R was operating in test mode, while Unit 2R has been partially assembled, with both units expected to be commissioned in second quarter of 2022.[20] As of December 2021, unit 2 has already been dismantled and can be presumed retired.[20] The units have not yet been brought into operation as of April 2022.

Equipment for the new units was provided by Russian turbine manufacturer Power Machines.[21] NMU EYM LLC was acting as a construction subcontractor. According to the project report published on the subcontractor's website, the replacement of units 1 and 2 was completed in 2022.[22]

Units 3 and 4 are also planned to be refurbished at an unspecified time in the future.[20]
