Background

Brazil's environmental authority IBAMA issued a construction license to the Norte Fluminense 2 power station in January 2021.[5] Construction was estimated to take four years and produce approximately 1,100 jobs.[2] Gas for the project would be supplied by the nearby Route 2 gas pipeline and/or the proposed Tepor Macaé FSRU.[10] As of September 2021, EDF was maintaining a website addressing common questions and concerns regarding the power station.[2] The project was listed as a participant in Brazil's A-5 national energy auction in September 2021[10], but did not emerge victorious.[11] The project still appeared to be in the pre-construction phase as of November 2022.[2][12][13]
