Background

The facility is housed at the location of a former coal fired power plant, which was modified to burn biomass and tire-derived material in 2007.[1] The plant was mothballed in 2013.[2] According to Blockfusion, the company is vertically integrated and owns the former power plant and the land on which it is located.[3] In May of 2022, an explosion at the substation that provides power to the facility resulted in the temporary shutdown of thousands of mining rigs, prompting Blockfusion to demand compensation for the down time.[4]
