Background

The Nuurst Khotgor coal mine is a surface coal mine. It is owned by Korea Coal Corporation (51%), which bought its share in 2010, and Khotgor Shanaga LLC (49%). It produces 1 million tons per year.[1][2]

In 2017–18, the mine was at the center of a corruption scandal involving Finance Minister Chimed Khurelbaatar.[3]

In 2023, Korea Coal Corporation is preparing to sell its Khotgor Shanaga coal mine in Mongolia.[4]
