Background
In 2021, Orient Cement Ltd (OCL) announced its plan to expand the production capacity of the plant from 3.5 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) to 6.5 mtpa of clinker and 3.07 mtpa to 7.6 mtpa of cement capacity.[3]As of October 2024, OCL had commissioned a WHRS in the Chittapur integrated unit and was in the final stage of commissioning 16 MW solar power plant at plant.[4]
In 2024, Ambuja Cements entered into a binding agreement to acquire 46.8% stake in Orient Cement Ltd at an equity value of INR 8,100 crore. The acquisition was part of Ambuja Cements' wider strategy reach its target capacity of 140 mtpa by 2028.[4]
