Background

Palesa Coal Mine is a surface mine in the Thembisile Hani Local Municipality, Mpumalanga, South Africa.

HCI Coal, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hosken Consolidated Investments Limited, owns and operates the Palesa colliery. The colliery's mining rights cover portions of the farm Loopspruit and the farm Rooipoort. Mining began in 2009.
