Units 1-5

Panxian-1 power station began as a 5 x 200 MW coal plant to support the Electricity Transmission From West to East. The 5 units were brought online between 1993 and 2001. The electricity it generated supplied Guangdong Province.[1]

The first two units were retired on December 31, 2009, and units 3-5 in 2014, to make capacity available for developing two new 660MW units at the site.[2][3]

Units 6-7

Two new 660 MW units are planned to replace the plant's original five 200 MW units under the policy of "Shutting down smaller units to build bigger ones". Test operation of unit 6 commenced on December 25, 2013.[3][4]

The two new 660 MW units were commissioned in 2013 and 2014, respectively.[5]
