Background
Pingguo Aluminum Smelter power station is a six-unit coal-fired power plant with a total capacity of 122 MW. The first 3 units were completed in 1996, 1998, and 2003. [1] The next 3 units (units 4-6) were commissioned in 2008. [2] It is owned by CHALCO.[3]
Expansion Project
CHALCO has proposed an expansion of 1,050 MW at this plant.[4] [5] [6]
In 2015, CHALCO, Guangxi Investment Co and Guangxi Baise Development Investment Group co-invested in "Guangxi Hualei New Material Company Ltd", which is developing 400 thousand-ton aluminum water project with 3*350MW coal fired power units, known as Guangxi Hualei power station. [7] [8]
The aluminum water project was approved by the China NDRC in 2015. [9]
The power plant was commissioned in September 2017, along with the aluminum water project.[10]
