Background

Polysaevskaya Coal Mine (шахта Полысаевская) is an underground mine in Kemerovo Oblast, Russia.

The Polysaevskaya coal mine is owned and operated by SUEK-Kuzbass JSC, a subsidiary of Siberian Coal Energy Company (SUEK).

As of 2019, the mine produced about 2.3 Mt of coal, about 1.5 million tonnes of which was exported (steam coal). Polysaevskaya mine has its own washing plant with annual capacity of 2 MT per annum.

SUEK has been taking steps to mothball the mine since 2020 and was in the final stage, as of February 2022. The mine had been operational for more than 80 years, there are still some reserves left but mining them would require substantial investments. It was anticipated that the mine will be mothballed by 'dry method' to leave the possibility of reopening the mine quickly in case needed.
