Background
Plans to build the 2.6 GW Power Maricá project were originally announced in September 2022.[5] By September 2024, two years had passed with no new developments other than a passing mention in a May 2023 Newsweek article[4], and the project was presumed to be shelved. In June 2026, having failed to secure a contract in Brazil's March 2026 LRCAP energy auction[6], the project was reclassified from shelved-inferred to cancelled-inferred.
