Background

In December 2024, Riviera reported that the LNG carrier Bilbao Knutsen was being converted to be a floating storage unit (FSU) to serve at an LNG import terminal in Puerto Cortés, Honduras. The terminal will provide gas to Brassavola power station. If completed, the import terminal would be the first in Honduras.

An article from La Prensa noted that there was a high environmental risk associated with the project.
