Qinhuangdao-2 power station (秦皇岛热电厂) is an operating power station of at least 1900-megawatts (MW) in Jianshe Avenue, Haigang, Qinhuangdao, Hebei, China with multiple units, some of which are not currently operating. It is also known as 河北建投神华国能秦皇岛发电厂 (Unit 1 & 2, Unit 3 & 4), 国电电力秦皇岛公司2×350MW燃煤机组扩建工程 (New Unit 1 & 2), 河北建投秦皇岛秦热发电厂 (Unit 5 & 6), 河北建投神华国能秦皇岛发电公司一期等容量替代发电项目 (New Unit 1 & 2).

Background
Qinhuangdao-2 power station is a six-unit coal-fired power plant with a total capacity of 1,630 MW. The plant was completed between 1992 and 2007, and is majority-owned by Hebei Construction & Investment Group.[8]
Expansion project
Two new units of 350 MW each are planned to replace units 1-2 of the power station. The project was on 2023 Hebei provincial key construction projects list.[9]
As of March 2021, plans for the new units was undergoing feasibility studies.[10] By the end of August 2023, no permit information could be found apart from various calls for bidding.[11][12]
The replacement units (Unit 7 and 8) are now operational. In 2023, the project was permitted, and construction began.[13]
In 2024, the project appeared on Hebei's key projects list, and by June, the first concrete was poured.[14][15] The old Unit 1 was mothballed in 2024.[16]
In 2025, construction was ongoing, and Unit 7 was retired from its backup role in October 2025.[17]
By early 2026, both new units (7 and 8) successfully passed 168‑hour full‑load trials.[18][19][20]
