RGT Yan LNG Terminal

From Global Energy Monitor

Background

In September 2022, MMC Group Bhd and SKS Corp Sdn Bhd launched a project to develop Pulau Bunting integrated development of gas supply centre and power plant in Yan, Kedah, Malaysia. The project, with a total cost of RM14.4 billion (USD$3.1 billion), includes the 1600-MW gas-fired Pulau Bunting power station, a coastal port, and an LNG regasification terminal. The terminal will use a floating storage unit or floating regasification unit. Gas from the project will be also provided to end users including industry, factories, hotels, and others. According to The Malaysian Reserve, "Yan was chosen because of its strategic location at the northern entrance of the Straits of Malacca, which is the busiest trade route in the world with over 100,000 ships using these waters a year."[1]

The associated power plant was reportedly under development as of 2025, suggesting that the terminal plans were still active.[2]
