Background

In 2017, Bulgartransgaz launched an environmental impact assessment (EIA) procedure for a pipeline to supply Razlog and Bansko with gas. Two routes were proposed, one that is 34 km and another that is 39 km.[4]

According to the Bulgartransgaz 2021-2030 Ten-Year Network Development Plan, "The project is funded by a grant under Kozloduy International Decommissioning Fund to the amount of EUR 195.5 thousand. Co-funding by Bulgartransgaz EAD is to the amount of EUR 14.767 million."[2]

In March 2021, Bulgartransgaz listed the pipeline as one of its "Projects in progress." The "planned deadline for completion of the project" was 2023.[2] However, the Bulgartransgaz's 2023-2032 TYNDP stated that the project was expected to start construction in 2022-23, with commissioning planned for the end of 2025.[5]

According to the Bulgartransgaz 2025-2034 Ten-Year Network Development Plan, the project is said to have "no investment decision," with the planned period of funding between 2026 and 2029 and an estimated cost of BGN 43.645 million (EUR 22.3 million).[3]
