Researching coal

There are a number of online databases which contain useful information for researching coal projects around the world beyond those in the country-specific help pages listed in the "Related GEM.wiki/CoalSwarm help pages" section at the foot of this page.

Coal-fired power stations around the world

  • The Center for Global Development's Carbon Monitoring for Action is a database containing information on the carbon emissions of over 50,000 power plants and 4,000 power companies worldwide.

Coal-fired power stations and coal mines around the world

  • Industry About. This website has basic information about fossil fuelled power stations and, as of April 2011, only Australian coal mines. (Note: many of these profiles are mostly very basic and mostly rely on information sourced from Wikipedia. However, they do include links to the Google satellite images of the plants which can otherwise take a lot of time to identify).

Other useful sites

  • iTouchMap.com - if you need to find the latitude and longitude of a point you can click on the Google map and drag the marker to the location to enter the address and the site will display the coordinates.
