Background
In August 2024, the Bauchi State Government and Resident Cement Company Ltd. signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a cement plant in the Gwana district of Alkaleri Local Government Area. The project included a 100 MW captive power plant.[1] Sinoma Nigeria Company was reportedly slated to construct the cement plant.[2]
According to reporting from November 2024, the Bauchi State Commissioner for Ministry of Natural Resources stated that the power plant would be 150 MW, burn coal and gas, and supply the cement plant as well as the regional grid.[3] Reporting from January 2025, however, referred to a 100 MW coal plant.[4]
