Background
The Allmendingen plant is the oldest production site within owner Schwenk Cement's portfolio. In 2020, Schwenk Zement announced plans for the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from cement kiln CO2 emissions through a pilot plant installed at the Allmendingen plant. Additionally, in 2024 it was announced that the plant will use Orcan Energy's organic Rankine cycle (ORC) technology to utilize residual heat from the clinker cooling process to generate electricity, which will save an estimate 8.5GWh/yr.
