SCHWENK Zement Heidenheim Cement Plant (Mergelstetten Zementwerk) is an integrated cement plant operating in Heidenheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
Location
The map below shows the exact location of the cement plant in Heidenheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany[1]:
Coordinates (WGS 84): 48.652730, 10.162857 (exact)[2]
Background
First opened in 1901, the Mergelstetten cement plant operates with a capacity of approximately 1 million tonnes per year in cement production.[3]
The plant is a site of the Catch4Climate plan, a partnership between major cement manufacturers Dyckerhoff, Heidelberg Materials, Schwenk Zement and Vicat, with the goal of implementing a 100% carbon capture cement plant.[4] In 2022, Schwenk Zement announced plans to pilot an OxyFuel unit using pure oxygen instead of air in the clinker kiln at Mergelstetten, an investment of more than 120 million euros set to construct a dedicated 450 tonne per day production line to test the process.[5]
