Background

The Sadkinskaya coal mine (шахта Садкинская) is an operating underground coal mine located in Rostov Oblast, Russia.

The Sadkinskaya coal mine is an operating underground anthracite coal mine. It is owned and operated by Shakhtouprvaleniye Sadkinskoe LLC[2], a subisidary of South Coal Company LLC[3] and is its only producing asset.[4] South Coal Company is developing two neighbouring mines - Sadkinskaya-Severnaya coal mine and Sadkinskaya-Vostochnaya coal mine.

The mine produced 2.5 million tonnes in 2021, which was a record high level.[4]

In 2020 about Rub2 billion were invested in the mine to support the expansion of the new mining area and to continue modernising the existing operations. These investments supported the production increase in 2021.[5]

The access to the mine is via railcars in a tunnel of 2.5km.[6][7]

A washing plant was commissioned in 2017.[5]
