Saih Rawl-Salalah Gas Pipeline, also known as the South Grid Pipeline, is an operating gas pipeline in Oman.[1]

Location

Main Line

The main pipeline runs from Saih Rawl in Ad Dakhiliyah to Salalah in Dhofar, Oman.[1]

South Grid Debottlenecking Project

This project added two pipeline loops, one between BVS-09 and BVS-10 in Hubara, Al Wusta, and another between BVS-17 and Raysut, Dhofar.[2]

Background

Main Line

In 2004, the 700 km, 24 inch gas pipeline between Saih Rawl gas field and Salalah was inaugurated. It is also known as the South Grid Gas Pipeline. The project cost US$170 million and was intended to local power plants and factories. The initial capacity was reported as 4 million cubic meters a day, but later articles indicate it increased up to 10 million cubic meters a day by 2020. After the debottlenecking project, capacity is 16 million cubic meters a day.[1][4]

South Grid Debottlenecking Project

In 2020, the contract for two loop lines to increased capacity on the South Grid pipeline. The first loop was proposed to be a 32 km, 32 inch gas pipeline in Hubara, from BVS-09 to BVS-10. The second loop was proposed to be a 175 km, 32 inch gas pipeline from Thumrait to Salalah, connecting BVS-17 to the Raysut terminal. Construction began in 2022 and was completed in 2024. The initial budget was US$150 million, but this was later revised to US$245 million. The project increased the main line's capacity by 60 percent, from 350 mmcf/d to 565 mmcf/d, or 10 million cubic meters a day to 16 million cubic meters a day. The project is also known as the Saib Project.[5][6][4]
