Background
As of November 2021, the Santa Cruz Rolugi project had received environmental approval, documents from the municipal government approving the site, an ICMS tax exemption on gas supply, and a water grant.[9] The plant was listed as a participant in Brazil's national energy auctions in September and December 2021.[10][11]
In May 2024, after more than two years with no further news of the plant's development, the project was presumed to be shelved. There was no subsequent news in 2025, and the Santa Cruz Rolugi project was not listed among the winning bidders in Brazil's March 2026 LRCAP energy auction. In June 2026, the project's status was moved from shelved-inferred to cancelled-inferred.[12]
